What is Godot?
Godot is a free and open-source 2D and 3D game engine maintained by the nonprofit Godot Foundation, registered in the Netherlands. It uses a Node and Scene architecture for building game logic and supports GDScript, C#, and C++ for programming, along with a Vulkan-based renderer and the Jolt physics engine as the default 3D physics option since version 4.6. The entire engine is released under the MIT license with no fees, subscriptions, or royalties.
Developers can export projects to desktop, mobile, and web platforms directly from the editor, with console releases possible through third-party publishing partners. Godot also includes OpenXR and WebXR support for extended reality projects, a built-in visual shader editor, and an extensible GDExtension system for embedding or expanding the engine. Its source code and roadmap are developed in the open on GitHub.
