Abyde provides HIPAA compliance software for covered entities and business associates, alongside OSHA compliance for healthcare, including security risk analysis, policy generation, training and documentation. It is aimed squarely at small independent practices rather than at health systems.

Covering OSHA as well as HIPAA reflects what a small practice actually faces. A dental or medical office is both a healthcare provider handling protected information and a workplace with bloodborne pathogen exposure, hazardous chemicals and injury reporting duties. Those are separate regulatory regimes with separate inspectors, and the same practice manager handles both with no specialist support.

Automated policy generation addresses the part practices find most alienating. HIPAA requires documented policies covering many specific areas, and a small practice has no template, no compliance officer and no realistic route to writing them, so generating them from a structured questionnaire converts an impossible task into an afternoon.

Serving business associates separately is right because their obligations differ. A billing company or IT provider handling protected health information carries direct liability under HIPAA, which many such firms do not realise until a client asks them to prove it.
